Services for Adult Adoptees Placed Through Christian Family Services

Christian Family Services assists adult adoptees whose adoptions were facilitated by CFS, and they want identifying information about their birth parents. The State of Michigan requires that certain criteria are met for CFS to release any information. For example, the individual must be at least 18 years of age and their biological family’s parental rights must have been terminated prior to May 28, 1945, or after Sept. 12, 1980.

In these cases, a copy of the original certificate of birth may be made available to the adult adoptee providing their biological parents did not file a denial statement with Michigan’s Central Adoption Registry.

For adult adoptees whose adoptions occurred between May 28, 1945 and September 12, 1980, the release of the original birth certificate is contingent upon a court order.
