Passionate about ethical adoption.

More than 70 years of experience in adoption

Christian Family Services is passionate about ethical adoption and wants to ensure that all members of the adoption triad – the expectant mother, the prospective adoptive parents and the adoptee – are cared for, honored and respected throughout the adoption process. Adoption does not stop when the baby is born and placed in the prospective adoptive family’s home. It is a lifelong journey.

CFS provides a full range of adoption services including pregnancy counseling, home studies, training for adoptive parents, court accompaniment, birth parent counseling and post-placement services.

Free adoption information seminars are held online the second Thursday of each month from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. Click here to join meeting.

Waiting Families Adoption Program

Christian Family Services provides adoption services to both the expectant parents and prospective adoptive families. When expectant parents decide that making an adoption plan is the best decision for them and their child, our adoption workers share profiles of prospective adoptive families from a pre-approved group of waiting parents. After reviewing the profiles – and perhaps meeting with prospective families -- the expectant parents chose a family to adopt their child, and preparation for the adoption begins.

CFS provides supportive counseling for both the prospective adoptive parents and the biological parents. This includes services such as adoption preparation; psychosocial issues surrounding the biological parents release of the child; collection of and preparation of background genetic and social information about the biological family.

The agency may also negotiate adoption communication or openness agreements as well as coordinate hospital services and discharge planning.

Once the baby is born and placed in the prospective adoptive parents’ home, the State of Michigan requires that the child be supervised (or visited) once per month until the adoption is finalized in court. Your CFS adoption worker makes these monthly visits and writes a report for the court.

Your CFS adoption worker also handles all filings for the adoption petition and final court hearings, including preparation and filing of court documents as well as court appearances.

Adoption Services with an Identified Expectant Mother

This program serves couples who want CFS to facilitate an adoption where they have already found an expectant woman who wants to make an adoption plan with them. This is called a direct placement adoption.

Your CFS adoption worker provides all the services outlined in the Waiting Family Adoption Program for families who have already identified an expectant woman and are seeking a direct placement adoption.

Services for an Independent Adoption

For families who are using the services of an adoption facilitator, adoption consultant, lawyer or out-of-state adoption agency, Christian Family Services provides home study and supervision services – and can represent the family in the adoption if it is being finalized in Michigan.
