If I need housing-can CFS help?

If you need a place to live until your baby is born we can refer you to a family or group home that cooperates with our agency. In certain cases we may be able to help you with the cost of housing for a short time.

Can you help with my medical costs?

Medical insurance or public assistance will usually pay these bills, but if this is not true for you CFS can help pay your expenses.

Is counseling really necessary?

Our social workers are trained professionals who provide a supportive environment and can help you sort through your emotions to better enable you to make the right decisions for you and your child. Our social workers are Christians who respect you and want to help in any way they can.

Adoption or Parenting?

Through counseling you may decide to make an adoptive plan for your child or a parenting plan. Your social worker can assist you through the process. If you choose an adoptive plan, CFS can help. We have been a licensed child placement agency since 1958.

We have very high standards for our adoptive parents, and they are thoroughly screened before being approved. You deserve the peace of mind which comes from knowing your baby is being placed in a solid family of your choosing, in an environment which is able to meet all the spiritual, emotional and physical needs of your child.

What is CFS's attitude about adoption?

We believe adoption can be a viable and positive alternative for a woman facing an unplanned pregnancy, however, we do not believe that adoption is the right choice for everyone.

For some women it is the best choice, for others it is not. Counseling from our social workers will help you determine how you feel and what's best for you and your child.

What choices do I have with an adoption plan?

We can provide profiles of our prospective adoptive parents and you can choose the family that best fits the needs of both you and your child. In most cases it is possible to meet the potential adoptive parents.

Will my child know anything about me?

Yes. We believe it is important to give information about you to the adoptive parents. Your child’s adoptive parents will then tell your child all about you as he/she grows up. You may want to write a letter to your child sharing special information about yourself or send a gift that will tell your child in the future that you love and want what is best for him/her. You may also correspond through letters and pictures.

So what do I do now?

Please call our office at (248) 557-8390 .  We can send you information on the adoption process or, if you'd prefer, to actually set up a meeting with a social worker to help walk you through your options.
